Born December 28, 1928 in Santa Barbara, California, Robert Scheerer is an American film and television director, actor and producer. He first appeared as a dancer in the 1943 film, "Mister Big," "Private Buckaroo," "Always a Bridesmaid" and many other films with the tap group, "The Jivin' Jacks and Jills." As an actor, he appeared in the films "How's About It," "Mister Bigg" and "Ghost Catchers."
Scheerer made his Broadway debut in the musical "Lend an Ear" in 1948 with Carol Channing, Gene Nelson, winning a Theatre World Award for his performance for outstanding debut. He worked with Andy Williams on "The Chevy Showroom" in 1959 and received an Emmy Award for Best Director in 1964 for The Danny Kaye Show. As a director, he directed episodes of "The Andy Williams Show," "The Danny Kaye Show," "Gilligan's Island," "The Fred Astaire Show," "The Girl with Something Extra" and "Kolchak - The Night Stalker." He also drected TV productions of "Arsenic and Old Lace" with Bob Crane and Fred Gwynne and the 1980 crime-comedy "How to Beat the High Cost of Living" with Jessica Lange, Jane Curtin and Susan Saint James. He also received three television Emmy Award nominations for the TV series, "Fame," but his most notable work includes directing "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Star Trek: Voyager."
He is currently retired and living in Valley Village, California.
