The Pedal-Powered Washing Machine is a creation of the Castaways that handled washing their laundry. In several episodes, it's implied that Mary Ann and Ginger do the laundry as they're often hanging clothes. The Skipper also grouses over it in Gilligan's Living Doll while Gilligan is actually doing it and later losing his hair literally in Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow.
