His father, Jack O. Gross was the founder of KFMB-TV, the first television station in San Diego in May 1949, and his brother Laurence Gross was an entertainment critic on KNSD. He wrote episodes of "Gilligan's Island," "My Favorite Martian," and "Different Strokes" and the screenplays for the movies "Clay Pigeon" and "Welcome to Arrow Beach" in 1974. He died on December 14, 2007 in La Jolla, California. He is survived by his son, Josh E.
