Gilligan Goes Home is the 83th episode of Gilligan's Island and the 15th episode of the third season. It aired December 26, 1966.

Synopsis

Passing by the girls hut, Gilligan sees the Professor, Mary Ann and Ginger rehearsing a play with a murder scene, but Gilligan thinks its real! Dragging the Skipper back to investigate, he is stunned to see the Professor very much alive with a nosebleed from hitting his nose on a table. This results in Skipper becoming a Sherrif and Gilligan his deputy. Unfortunately, Gilligan takes his job too seriously and enforcing the laws on the books to every detail. This is all occurring as the Professor and Skipper are trying to contact the Coast Guard to be rescued. Gilligan ends up locking every one up for various infractions... including HIMSELF as The Castaways recreate various scenes trying to get out of the cave! Meanwhile, a Coast Guard plane flies over the Island, but no one has had a chance to set up the signal to contact them. With everyone now very upset at Gilligan, he breaks out of prison to escape, freeing everyone.

Trivia

  • This is similar to an episode of The Andy Griffith Show where Deputy Barney Fife is left in charge for one day... and locks up everyone in town!
  • The presence of the blank gun is unexplained unless it came from the Hollywood crate in Castaway Pictures Presents or the magic crate in It's Magic.
  • The episode has a tag scene removed in syndication. Locked up for screwing up the rescue, Gilligan references the book and movie, "Count of Monte Cristo," to reveal he is tunneling out of jail.
