Willy Gilligan is one of the main characters. A close friend of the Skipper, Gilligan is commonly called "His little buddy" despite getting hit by the Skipper a lot. He served with the Skipper in World War II and apparently saved his life by pushing out of the way of a depth charge, but according to the Skipper "You didn't save my life. You prolonged it so you could cause me more bad luck!"

Personality

Gilligan's personality is labeled as "Funny & Sensitive" and "Klutzy & Scared", throughout the season Gilligan is always doing clumsy and funny things, but is sometimes thoughtful and kind. Usually Gilligan, when faced against headhunters and kidnappers is scared, though he is always scared. Gilligan sometimes doesn't understand words like "navigatable" or "gourment" and is sometimes very forgetful. Gilligan is always accident-prone, and usually disaster follows him where he goes.

Gilligan often gets nervous around girls, especially if they try and kiss him, he then usually runs into something, like a tree, which knocks him out.

Gilligan always wears a long sleeved red shirt and a white collar, jeans, sneakers and his trademark sailor hat. In the episode Smile, Your On Mars Camera it is said that his red shirt orginally belongs to his brother.

Trivia

  • Gilligan's birthdate is never given, but he was born in "a tiny town in Pennsylvania" on a stormy night and he is in his 30's during the show.
  • When headhunters attack the island, Gilligan is usually the one who stops them.
  • Gilligan enjoys many children's activities, such as comic books and skateboarding. He is a fan of Buck Rodgers.
  • He has a brother whose clothes he wears during the series and a mother.
  • Gilligan once mentions that his father was short, had a mustache, and wore glasses.
