Somewhere Over The Rerun is the Second Episode of the Second Season of "Alf." It aired on September 28, 1987.
Synopsis
The episode opens with ALF drilling holes into coconuts and speaking some vaguely Hawaiian gibberish. This is because he’s preparing himself for some event television: a rerun of Gilligan's Island. Brian and ALF are both watching an episode of Gilligan's Island but Kate comes in to tell Brian to get ready for bed, and he joins ALF in the Gilligan’s Island quote-fest by forcing his way through history’s most tortured “Aye aye.” Willie comes in and ALF complains to him that he’s only happy when Gilligan’s Island is on. Willie dismissively replies, “That’s four hours every day right there.”. At nighttime, ALF tells Willie and Kate some stories about the show and he knows that the fun never stops. The next morning, Willie tells Kate that there is no water coming out of the faucet. Willie falls down to the lagoon ALF built and Kate shows up to. ALF tells Kate it was Willie's idea to build all of this and he gets mad. ALF's transformation of the backyard into the "Great Tanner Reef" and diversion of the house's water main gets him punished by being made to refill the hole. Lynn brings ALF a glass of lemonade and then promptly ceases to exist.
While asleep from working hard, he has a dream where he actually finds himself on Gilligan's Island. He meets with Gilligan and Skipper, who are fishing. They take ALF to meet Mary Ann and the Professor. For lunch, Mary Ann said that they're going to have mangoes. ALF learns that there are no more coconut creme pies due to the castaways' aging and being concerned about blood sugar. ALF also learns that the castaways are depressed from being away from civilization for so long. They are bored and tired from doing the same thing for 23 years like eating fruits, coconut pies, Gilligan get hit on the head with a hat, and being called "Little Buddy" when he's in his 40's. ALF tries to make them be their funny selves, only for them to order him to fill their own lagoon for them to build a miniature golf course. Through a makeshift TV built by the Professor, (made from bamboo, transistor tubes and a 19-inch tube that fell off a cruise ship and washed ashore), the castaways watch their favorite TV show, The Adventures of the Tanner Family, a program about the Tanner family! Gilligan and the castaways pine for a mundane life in suburbia like the Tanners and to once again eat apple pie and meatloaf and take warm bathes. ALF shows up and asks the cast if he can watch a little. He can dig as he goes home and he knows that he doesn't want to be a castaway since it's only fun in half our chunks. Through the TV, Willie tells ALF that he wanted to be on Gilligan's Island since the fun never stops. ALF wants to go home and wakes up when Willie comes up to him outside.
ALF gushes about how much he loves this place. He comes in to eat meatloaf and Kate asks him if he wants pie. Willie says ALF likes Bonanza now and there’s a stagecoach to return.

Quotes
- Kate - (comes in the kitchen) "Willie, there's something wrong with the bathtub."
Willie - "It's probably clogged with ALF's hair again. He refuses to vacuum himself before he takes a bath."
Kate - "No, it's the faucet. There's no water coming out."
Willie - "There's no water here either."
ALF - (outside) "Hey, could you turn that off? I'm losing pressure out here."
- Willie - "Say, what exactly are you doing out there?"
ALF - "It's a surprise."
Willie - "He said surprise."
Kate - "The dreaded "s" word."
Willie - "ALF, what are you..."
ALF - "Watch out Willie, it's a little slippery."
Willie - "Whoa!" (Willie falls into the lagoon.]
- ALF - "Willie's swimming in the lagoon I built. It's just like the one on Gilligan's Island. From now on, life around here will be much more exciting."
(Willie screaming)
ALF - "See, it's exciting already."
Willie - "How would you like to be buried at sea?"
- ALF - "You're not happy about this, are you?"
Kate - "Just tell us why you did it."
ALF - "It was Willie's idea."
Willie "What?"
ALF - "Don't try to worm your way out of this one. You said we'd build a lagoon."
Willie - "I said we'd build a little lagoon. Not the Great Tanner Reef!"
ALF "Okay, I misunderstood. I'm sorry. I made a boo-boo."
Willie - "A boo-boo? (angrily) I want my yard back the way it was. I want trees I can trim! I want grass I can mow! No water! No hut! And you're going to stay right here until i get it! Have I made my self clear?!"
ALF - "What? Are you talking to me?"
- ALF - "Gilligan's Island? I'm in rerun heaven."
Gilligan - "Bet I catch a big one."
Skipper - (his cap flies off on the end of Gilligan's line) "Gilligan!"
Gilligan - "Skipper, what happened to your hat?"
Skipper - "You're using it for bait."
- Gilligan - "I'll get it back to you, Skipper, don't worry."
(puts the Skipper's hat on him and water comes out)
Skipper - "Gilligan! You idiot!"
ALF - (laughing) "You guys are hilarious. Encore, encore, ya!"
Skipper - "Who are you?"
ALF - "I'm ALF, your biggest fan. I worship the sand you walk on."
Skipper - "Where did you come from?"
ALF - "Melmac."
Gilligan - "Melmac, is that anywhere near Bora Bora?"
- ALF - "Ha! You guys never stop. Hey, where are the others?"
Skipper - "What others?"
ALF - "You know..."
Skipper - "Hey, wait a minute. How do you know about all of us?"
Gilligan - "Hey, wait a minute. How do you know about all of us?"
Skipper - "I just said that, Gilligan."
Gilligan - "I thought it sounded familiar. "
- ALF - (laughing at Gilligan hit by the Skipper's hat) "Oh, I never get tired of that."
Gilligan - "I get tired of it."
