Synopsis
Watching TV, Alf becomes a big fan of "Gilligan's Island" and starts considering it paradise, much to the annoyance of Willie and Kate. So, he starts turning the Tanner's home into a shrine to the series by diverting the main water line to the backyard to create a lagoon. Willie is livid that he would do such a thing and orders him to clean the mess, but Alf actually falls asleep and has a dream where he meets Gilligan, the Skipper, the Professor and Mary Ann. However, becoming one with the Castaways is not turning out to be the fantasy he hopes for as the Castaways are now chronically depressed and constantly arguing with one another, from being away from civilization for so long (In fact the arguing had gotten so bad that Ginger and Thurston Howell III and Mrs. Howell moved to the other side of the island and are now on non-speaking terms with the others). Meanwhile, Gilligan complains of being called "Little Buddy" into his forties, and Mary Ann is only making healthy meals and fruit for dessert, the Professor commenting that coconut cream pies were bad for their blood sugar levels (and they were sick to death of them anyway). They have become bored and tired from doing the same thing for over twenty-five years. When Alf complains that they're not being the funny wacky characters he's seen TV, the Castaways, turn on him, and order him to dig dirt to fill in their lagoon to build a miniature golf course for their entertainment, while they turn to a makeshift TV the Professor built to pick up a TV signal. Their favorite TV show is "The Tanners" which reminds them what regular life is all about back home, with them all pining for things that the Tanners can do, like take warm bathes, eat meatloaf and apple pie, and change clothes. Alf now realizes that Gilligan's Island is 'only fun in half-hour chunks' as Willie (through the Professor's TV) breaks the fourth wall and declare that Alf wanted to be on Gilligan's island, where the fun never stops. Alf begs to return home, just before he wakes up, now disenchanted by "Gilligan's Island" and more appreciative of what he has with the Tanners. Unfortunately, a few days later, Alf has latched into another TV show, turning the Tanner back yard into the Ponderosa from "Bonanza."
