Born November 29, 1910 in Passaic, New Jersey, Albert "Al" Schwartz is a comedy and television writer and the brother of Sherwood Schwartz, the creator and producer of Gilligan's Island, and Elroy Schwartz. He started out as a writer for Bob Hope's radio program, "The Pepsodent Show Starring Bob Hope" and "The Red Skelton Show," for which he and the other writers won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series in 1961, getting nominated for the same award in 1962. Sherwood hired both Al and Elroy to write for "Gilligan's Island," but he also wrote scripts for several other TV shows, such as "The Jackie Gleason Show," "The Milton Berle Show," "The Brady Bunch" and "Petticoat Junction" among other television shows and TV movies through the Fifties to the Seventies. He also served as a writer for the "Gilligan's Island" movies of the Seventies. Sadly, he passed away March 25, 1988.
